Bacon maple french toast cupcake: that is a thing and it is amazing! I have been to a couple of cupcake places between Ocean Springs and Bay St. Louis and I can with confidence Melissa's is by far the best.

Went there to get something to satisfy my sweet tooth. not much of a variety of baked goods. Mostly high priced cupcakes. Cheesecakes were ok, New York style. The people inside were kind of friendly, not heart warming kind. The price of cakes were way too high. This place is for like the high price paying people. Did not have what I wanted to drink. Asked for tea and the lady said they didn't have any when it was on the menu board. They take forever to help one customer. I will not go back ever again.

I contacted MELISSA'S SPECIALTY CAKES last week to look into getting a cake for my husband's 67th birthday on 9-22-13. I communicated that I was an inpatient in the hospital and did not have cash, credit card, or checks at this time to put down deposit. I gave two local business references (within less than a block of the business) who personally know me and she never even bothered to contact me or pursue - pretty poor business priorities. So, his birthday was awash...thanks for being so uncaring and I will assure I never recommend or use MELISSA'S SPECIALTY CAKES...not a good way to do business. GulfCoastMSLady

I am so glad this bakery has opened in Long Beach! Their cakes are always perfect and the staff is so helpful with orders! The rest of the desserts are always YUMMY! I would highly recommend this for any birthdays, baby showers or specialty events.

I went to buy my husband a birthday cake...big mistake. Melissa wasn't there so no one knew the price and the girl behind the counter wanted to take my debit card info and charge my card after getting the price from Melissa... no, I don't think so. So the worker in the back called Melissa at home to get the price of the red velvet cake I wanted. It was $28.00 for the cake plus an extra $15.00 for the sugarfree frosting...HAHAHAHA...they be crazy-YEAH! Granted it was supposed to be large enough to serve 10 people but that price is outrageous and no one knew the prices of the products beforehand.

I have been a customer of Melissa's Specialty cakes for the past few years - initially at their Long Beach location, and now at their Gulfport location. Every time I have ordered a cake (two baby shower cakes, two birthday cakes, one special occasion cake) - they have always been delicious and well made. Only once has the cake décor been a little off from what I requested, but I'm not perfect either. Aside from their cakes, every other treat that I have purchased from there has been wonderful. The cross buns they sell during Easter time are the best I've ever had, and their King Cakes are SO good (and I'm from New Orleans, so I've had plenty of different types of King Cake.) The fruit cheesecake and Bavarian tarts are what my husband and mother-in-law get me for every occasion because they are so delicious and fresh. Melissa and her daughter (who runs the Gulfport location) have always been kind and welcoming to me every time I have placed an order or just came by for a treat. The younger girls that they hire are still in school and need an afternoon job - of course they aren't the most professional but at least they're working and Melissa has given them an opportunity to have a job. As far as price is concerned, I feel like her prices are fair for custom orders. I could go to Rouses or Wal-mart and get a generic cake for a lot cheaper... but you get what you pay for. To everyone leaving such poor reviews, this is a local business. A lot of our local businesses rely on word of mouth and reviews on sites such as Yelp. If you truly had a poor experience, contact the owner and see if she can do anything to make your experience better, and then don't go back if you do not want to. But to trash a local business woman who is trying to be successful WHILE helping those who are struggling (donating all leftovers to Feed my Sheep), is ridiculous. Also.. Kathie E., of course they aren't going to make a custom order without a deposit or money up front. This is a LOCAL business. It's 2015, get a debit card.

I purchased a birthday cake for my 9 yr old daughter. I paid $72.76 for it on the day that I placed order. On pickup day, they tried to charge us again. The cake was pretty but looks can be deceiving. This cake was horrible. It was dry, pieced together with icing (why?? It was a 1/2 sheet cake.). After looking at leftover cake the next day, there was a hard frozen doughy piece in the center. I'm not a baker, but I do know that this shouldn't have happened. Why we didn't bring it back? The party was at 4 pm. Why mess up my daughters party? Lesson learned, I will not purchase or recommend this company ever. 7-27-15. I spoke to owner and her customer service skills were just as bad as the cake. The hard center was the portion taken out so that the cake would cook evenly and not burn. News to me!!! Then again, I'm not a baker. But, I did let her know that I purchased cakes bigger than this and never had a core center. She also told me to take my business elsewhere and hung up on me. OUTSTANDING!!!This was her Gulfport store location.

I thought for the price that these would taste amazing, but for 3.75 a cupcake I would rather buy my own boxed mix at the grocery store and make it myself. It would taste better. There was a lady ahead of me when I got in the bakery and Melissa did not welcome or acknowledge me. I figured she was busy but there was only the one person so was spending so much time talking and boxing her stuff. I thought that maybe she likes giving her customers undivided attention. Not so much when it came to me. First time there and definitely the last time!

DELICIOUS CUPCAKES! After taking a nice stroll into the town of Long Beach to grab some coffee, a friend and I were on our way to BankHouse Coffee. Unfortunately, BankHouse Coffee decided to close their doors early, so my friend and I made our way to Melissa's Specialty Cakes after seeing a sign for coffee displayed in the window. Upon entering the quaint little business it is very clean. Decadent, beautifully decorated cakes glisten in the display cases. After getting a closer look you start to see the variety of cupcakes that are offered. I was thoroughly impressed. I ordered a coffee, the grande pumpkin spice latte, which tasted absolutely nothing like pumpkin anything. It was as though I ordered a plain vanilla latte. I was extremely disappointed seeing as it was my first attempt of the season to order anything pumpkin. Then, my friend ordered her coffee and bought us a Samoa cupcake. After sitting down at the comfortable indoor seating by the window, we split the Samoa cupcake. The two young women working gave us a very nice plate with two forks so we could share. I went in for the first bite and when I pulled the fork away the cupcake started to crumble. I then took my first bite and it was so delicious and moist! This cupcake was well worth the $3.75. It really was one of the best cupcakes I had ever had. There is no doubt in my mind that I would go to Melissa's Specialty Cakes again and I am even thinking about ordering my husband a cake. I would use their services on any special occasion and if these cupcakes are any indication of what their baker is capable of, then these employees are very talented. CUSTOMER SERVICE was AWFUL. There was one really sweet brunette woman working. However, she was not our server. Regrettably, we got stuck with the rude blonde girl who looked like she would rather be anywhere else but there. Also, it would have been nice to have a menu to sit down with. They had a beautifully displayed menu on the wall that was clean and visible, but my friend is very indecisive so it would have been nice to sit and drink our coffee's while she took her sweet time to decide what else she wanted. Menu's would be a good future item for them to consider. Although I feel like the system they have is fine. I called Melissa about two years ago and she answered the phone personally and never called me back twice. I thought she just was busy and went looking elsewhere for a birthday cake for my daughter. Recently my sister decided to call her, remind you this is now two years later, and the lady never returned her call. I heard her cakes were delicious but, unfortunately we are not able to try them. Maybe someone else will have better luck getting a returned phone call.
